PrimaLoft Unveils UltraPeak Insulation Technology and Rerun Circular Platform

Insulation specialist PrimaLoft has introduced two major innovations: UltraPeak, a premium high-loft insulation technology that mimics the look and feel of down while using 100% recycled fibers, and the Rerun platform designed to advance circularity through textile-to-textile recycling. These developments represent significant steps in sustainable apparel manufacturing and address the growing demand for eco-friendly outdoor and performance wear solutions.

Leading synthetic insulation manufacturer PrimaLoft has announced two groundbreaking developments that signal a new direction in sustainable apparel technology. The company's latest innovations—UltraPeak insulation and the Rerun circular platform—represent significant advancements in both performance materials and environmental responsibility within the outdoor and fashion industries.

UltraPeak: Premium Insulation with Architectural Innovation

UltraPeak represents a new approach to synthetic insulation technology, featuring a unique structural design that PrimaLoft compares to the flying buttresses found in cathedral architecture. This innovative interweaving of architectural fibers and microfibers delivers consistent loft while maintaining a soft handle for enhanced comfort. The technology occupies a premium position within the PrimaLoft range, which is currently used by over a thousand international brands across outdoor, sport, lifestyle apparel, home wear, and workwear categories.

According to Andrea Paulson, PrimaLoft's director of innovation and technology, "Since 1984, we have developed deep expertise and knowledge in insulation, and UltraPeak brings a new approach, with an insulator that takes on the look and feel of down. The architectural fibers help guarantee this loft, creating space for the insulation without adding weight to the garment."

Sustainability at the Core

UltraPeak is manufactured using 100% recycled fibers through the PrimaLoft Pure process, which reportedly reduces the carbon footprint by more than 50% compared with conventional manufacturing methods. This commitment to circularity forms part of a broader expansion of the company's recycling ambitions and aligns with growing consumer demand for sustainable apparel solutions.

Rerun Platform: Advancing Circular Economy

The newly launched Rerun platform represents PrimaLoft's strategic move toward textile-to-textile recycling, addressing the critical issue of textile waste in the fashion industry. As Andrea Paulson explained, "All the indicators suggest that textile-to-textile recycling is the future of the outdoor industry. Rerun is designed to break the linear consumption model and addresses the issue of textile waste. Rerun products are intended to be circular, deliver superior performance and be produced in responsible facilities."

The Rerun platform utilizes both chemical recycling processes, similar to those used in the Silver insulation range, and mechanical recycling methods employed in ThermoPlume technology. This dual approach allows for greater flexibility in processing different types of textile waste and creating new high-performance fibers from recycled materials.

Industry Impact and Brand Partnerships

Headquartered in Latham, New York, and owned by Compass Diversified Holdings (CODI), PrimaLoft counts major brands including Patagonia, Helly Hansen, Moncler, Adidas, Lululemon, Gap, and Sitka among its clients. The introduction of UltraPeak and Rerun positions the company at the forefront of sustainable innovation in the performance apparel sector.

These developments come alongside other recent additions to the PrimaLoft range, including ThermaStretch insulation offering 30% greater elasticity, HeatSphere intermediate insulation for enhanced heat retention, and Rise Sleeping Bag insulation designed specifically for sleeping bag applications.

The launch of UltraPeak insulation and the Rerun platform represents a significant step forward in sustainable apparel manufacturing. By combining advanced performance characteristics with robust environmental credentials, PrimaLoft is setting new standards for the industry while addressing critical sustainability challenges. As consumer demand for eco-friendly products continues to grow, these innovations position PrimaLoft and its partner brands to lead the transition toward a more circular and responsible apparel industry.
