Decathlon's Berlin expansion begins with the Spandau Arcaden location opening on December 12, followed by the Berlin Central Station store on December 19. According to FashionNetwork.com, the Central Station opening will mark Decathlon's tenth store in the Berlin region, solidifying the company's presence in Germany's capital city. Both locations have been specifically designed for high-footfall urban environments and will offer curated product ranges focused on urban sports and travel needs.

Store Formats and Features

The new stores represent Decathlon's adaptive retail strategy, with the Spandau Arcaden location spanning 400 square meters and featuring direct connection to the ICE station. This strategic positioning serves as a gateway to the pedestrian zone and includes "Locker" pick-up stations for enhanced customer convenience. The Berlin Central Station store covers 500 square meters and holds the distinction of being the only sports retailer in Berlin open on Sundays, addressing the needs of weekend shoppers and travelers.

Strategic Vision and Growth Plans

Stefan Kaiser, development and real estate director at Decathlon Germany, emphasized the strategic flexibility behind these openings. "Our expansion is in full swing. These openings in Berlin perfectly demonstrate our strategic flexibility," Kaiser stated. He further explained the company's location philosophy: "We go where the people are. That could be a 3,000-square-metre partner store, such as the one in Nuremberg, or indeed 500 square metres at one of Germany's busiest railway stations." This approach supports Decathlon's ambitious goal to operate 150 stores across Germany by 2027.
